The two computers running have not been able to access the internet. One of them with ZA kept blocking everything. No settings were changes. Uninstalled that update, all was back to normal. Anyone having the same difficulty? Both computers running Xp. | | Administrator with 63,628 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: Quebec, Canada | | Yes, this is a known issue and several people are having problems because of it. | | Member with 53 posts. | | Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: UK Experience: Average- usually confused | | Ahhh, this would explain my lack of internet too. I just thought Zone Alarm was having an off day or that my ISP was being dodgy. Actually nice to hear others are experiencing the same problems and hopefully it will all be sorted out soon then.
(*sidenote* I created a post in the Web section re: firewalls - didn't notice this forum at all!! D'oh!) | | Administrator with 63,628 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: Quebec, Canada | | You'll have to uninstall the update or reduce your Zone Alarm security settings to medium instead of High, which is not advisable. | | Member with 53 posts. | | Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: UK Experience: Average- usually confused | | Ah, thanks for the advice.: up: Any ideas on how to uninstall the windows update? I'm slightly clueless hehe.
I'm currently surfing the net using Microsoft Windows Firewall but not sure how secure that is...so would like to switch back to ZA. | | Administrator with 63,628 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: Quebec, Canada | | You're best with a third party firewall. XP is better than nothing but it won't block outgoing connections.
MS updates can be uninstalled via Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel. If you don't see them listed there then you just need to put a check mark at the top where it says "Show updates".

I have created a sticky post about this. Please refer back to it as any eventual solution will be posted there. You will eventually need to redownload that update as it patches some security vulnerabilities. | | Senior Member with 299 posts. | | Join Date: Sep 2002 Location: Florida | | I did something that works. I am trying Comodo on one of my computers and it works just fine. I still have the MS update installed so no problems. Also, have the MS update on another computer that is running zone alarm ver 5.5.094.000 which was not affected. | | Member with 52 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2005 Experience: Computer Illiterate |
