I have 2 XP Home machines( which use ZA) and a linux machine ( no ZA ) hard wired to the router & 1 Vista machine ( Windows Firewall ) which is connected wirelessly on the network.
If I set Zone Alarm to high in the Internet Zone Security I cannot access the Network drive on the XP machines If I set the Internet Zone Security to Medium, all is well. I have downloaded the ZA patch for the windows update problem and I can access the internet with the setting on high.
I would certainly appreciate some help.
Thanks
Lew

If not, do that and see if using the trusted setting (which is separate from the Internet setting) helps.

( see screenshot 2png.png) but when I follow the instruction I don't get the same GUI
(see screenshot 1 ).
I tried manually using the drive name. Didn't work. Then I tried the network name- still NG
I don't know for sure the IP address of the drive or even if it has one.
I could certainly use some help.

In the "Firewall" section of ZA, click the "Zones" tab and in that area, you can define your LAN subnet in the trusted zone.
I'll see if I can take some screenshots for you.

Attached is the sole survivor. Go to the "Zones" area of the "Firewall" configuration section.
Click the "Add" button at the bottom and click "Subnet" to define the subnet. Make sure the "Trusted" zone is selected when you define the subnet address. When you define the subnet, make sure to leave 0 as the last octet, like this:
192.168.1.0
255.255.255.0 (netmask)
You can name the subnet whatever you want. When you're done, the entry should look like the circled entry in the screenshot.
Let me know if you have any questions.

192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0
I get error as shown that the drive is not connected. I rebooted to see if that would connect but no. I can connect at the medium setting.

Bay Area, CA Experience: Intermediate | | Ok, first the subnet address should be 192.168.0.0. Since your assigned IP is 192.168.0.102, you are on the 192.168.0.x subnet. So, change your subnet address to 192.168.0.0 and leave the netmask as 255.255.255.0.
Next, the error message you're getting is telling you the "Z:" drive letter is already in use. So, you'll have to see what is being assigned to the "Z" drive.
I want you to do this: - Redefine the subnet to have the address 192.168.0.0 and the netmask of 255.255.255.0.
- On the "Main" section of the "Firewall" configuration area, make sure the Internet Zone is set to "High" and the "Trusted" Zone is set to "Medium" (don't want the "Trusted" Zone to be high).
- Reboot. If you get the error about "Z" being in use, open a command window (Click Start, then Run, and type "cmd" and press enter) and issue the command: net use (then press enter). That should tell you what is already connected to the "Z" drive.
- Please post screenshots of the "Main" and "Zones" sections of the "Firewall" configuration area

Got it. Thank you.
You said to:
* Redefine the subnet to have the address 192.168.0.0 and the netmask of 255.255.255.0.
* On the "Main" section of the "Firewall" configuration area, make sure the Internet Zone is set to "High" and the "Trusted" Zone is set to "Medium" (don't want the "Trusted" Zone to be high).
I did and it works like a charm. Thanks. I could not have done this without your very clear instructions.
