Solved: SuperAntiSpyware settings
Just upgraded the SAS scan engine (free version) and noticed some settings that weren't in there before. Was just wondering what the recommended scan settings were. does anyone have any advice? Opinions?

You ask about recommended settings.....3 out of the 5 items you've circled are "recommended" to be ticked by the guys who wrote the program. It's a good program - and I'd just go with the flow on this one.

I know they recommend them and a quick google search gave me results indicating the direct access ones in particular have been causing blue screens for people. I remember once an expert in here listing off what should be checked and what should be left alone ... I just can't find the thread right now and all I remember for sure is what I have ticked off there and that it was stated "make sure nothing else is checked". I'm hoping one of the many shielded experts I've grown to trust in here will pop in and give me some advice.

Hi,
The directions for SUPERAntispyware I use have this:
Under Configuration and Preferences, click the Preferences button.
· Click the Scanning Control tab.
· Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked:
o Close browsers before scanning
o Scan for tracking cookies
o Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
o Please leave the others unchecked.
Here's a link to a thread showing the full set of directions in Post# 11 .....it's a thread from today, worked by

thanks a lot byteman, that's what I vaguely remembered but wasn't sure if those other options existed when I was given it.
As a side note the "close browsers before scanning" option doesn't work with firefox 3. It closes IE for me but leaves FF3 open.

You can check out the help files for more information. This is what is says about the "closing browsers" option so it appears it's only programmed to close IE and not Firefox:
Close browsers before scanning
Close
Internet Explorer
prior to starting the scan. Often times leaving the browser open during a scan can result in additional spyware/adware being installed.
