Problem Unknown
For a few days now my PC now has a white background, (wallpaper), and right clicking the wallpaper brings up a completely different drop down box containing SELECT ALL, VIEW SOURCE, ENCODING, PRINT, REFRESH, a bunch of EASY-WEBPRINT choices and PROPERTIES, but it does not give access to properties to change screen wallpaper or screensaver, or anything else. Also when I click on SETTINGS, it does not show a CONTROL PANEL, or other regular choices, it just says TASKBAR AND START MENU. all the icons are on the desktop, and most of them seem to open the various program to work, but I cannnot CONTROL PANEL or SCREEN PROPERTIES. can anybody point me in the right direction? I have an Asus motherboard with an Athlon 2.2 processor. I have SUPERantispyware, and AVG 7.5. I have ran them both several times, but they are not getting me anywhere.

HELP, : confused: photoguy46

AVG 7.5 is outdated. I recomend you upgrade to version 8 or get Aviria Antivir. If you go to Start can you get to your control panel? If so, I would go to add/remove(if XP) or Program features(Vista) and look for Easy-webprint. Also it wouldn't hurt to download and run HiJackThis and post a log to be analyzed. See here for details on how to post for help and how to get HiJackThis.

I think you desktop is now an active web page ( active desktop? ), from what you said about the right click choices available.

AVG 8 has a huge number of bugs in which i would not recommend upgrading to although i would recommend changing to a completely new antivirus because all versions of AVG are outdated in which i agree totally with Avira AntiVir and another freeware app called avast.

I don't know how many times Avast has let XP Anti-virus 2008 and 2009 as well as other rouge programs in. I lost count after 100!! Avira is good. However AVG has worked out a lot of kinks. I have it on one of my bench machines here at the shop.

Go to Control Panel > Display > Desktop tab> Customize Desktop Button> Web tab. Then uncheck any web pages in the list box. Apply.

Problems have changed a bit, after messing around with the desktop a few more hours, I found that I could X off the white screen, and now it is a blue screen, but I can't find any controls to get rid of it. By the way AVG 8 always downloads but then when it gets ready to install and run, it gives me a message that it is not jiving with my XP version of Windows, but that is the version it is made for, but it won't install and run. When I go to Start, Settings, all I see is Taskbar and Start Menu. There is no Control Panel listed, no Printer, or anything else. I can go to my Search feature, but it will not work at all. My hard drive (C) is no longer listed on My Computer, and it is no longer listed in my Windows Explorer. Right clicking on the desktop screen, and then clicking on Properties seems as though it will work, but after I click on Properties, it tells me the administrator has locked out access to this area, but I am the administrator. I have an Asus motherboard, AMD Athlon 2.2 processor, a Dragon dictate program which seems to work fine, most all of my documents for school open up fine, but I am blocked access to each one of the programs I listed above. In the past, before I had any of these problems I had already downloaded Super anti-spyware, Rogue Remover, Smitfraudfix, CCleaner, AVG 7.5, and AdAware 2007. I just recently, ( yesterday), reinstalled Spyware Doctor, in an effort to help rid my system of these problems, and it found 30 items, quarantined, and deleted them.I looked on the Internet for hijacker removal tools, and came across a program called AdwareAlert, the download was free, and it found 46 different items.-Adware, Downloaders, Rogue AntiSpyware, and Email Worms, most of these items are located in hkey_classes_root.... files. But it won't delete any of them unless I pay for the full version of the program, but I have no guarantee that it will actually remove any of them after I pay. I am not sure if I can trust the Adware Alert program at all. This program is kind of holding my system for ransom I have ran all of the above programs which I downloaded for free from the Internet. My son sent me the link for them. Super anti-spyware found a few things and said it deleted them when I ran the program, a few minutes later, it found the same things again and said it deleted them. I again ran the program a few more minutes later and it found the same things again, and said it deleted them. Now it won't find anything, but some of my other programs such as AdAware 2007 have found a few things Trojan horse downloader's, and a few other things, quarantined them and deleted them. But apparently there is still some residual hijackers and/or downloaders in my system. I thank everyone for their comments in their replies, but I still need to solve these problems. If this more accurate description helps anyone understand what my problem is, please do not hesitate to fill me in on the solution. What is a hijack this log, and how do I go about creating one to send here?

Thank you, photoguy46

Go to the malware removal forum and post a hijackthis log. Hijackhis is available here:

http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en...kthis/download

Use "Do a system scan and save a log file", and notepad will open with a log of what it finds, copy and paste the contents to the Malware Removal forum. Don't ask it to fix anything.
