Install limewire!!!!!
Hi all, I am trying to find a way to stop users from installing Lime Wire at work. Since we have so many users with admin rights, I have to find a solution. I was thinking of creating a hive in the registry for Lime Wire and then setting the permissions for Everyone and System to DENY- Full Control. Does anyone have any suggestions?

How about a memo from the head of the company or the head of HR to all employees stating that anyone found using Limewire or other P2P program on a company computer or on the company network will be terminated?

Or you can get a shiny hardware firewall that blocks the Gnutella and Bittorrent protocols.

You need to look at the bigger picture of blocking all P2P applications with a comprehensive technology solution and a strong, legal personnel policy. A company can easily be sued for allowing their assets and network to be used for illegal activities.

By any chance did you mean to say sued?

LOL he corrected the post already.
Users are users, they do not give a second thought about security or their company's legal matters. When they were hired, they signed paperwork stating not the abuse the network. I guess we could just fire them all. No go on the firewall or a GPO sadly. I guess I will just install Limewire on a machine that I can reimage afterwards, to see what I can come up with. Anyone else?

You could say if you catch them with P2P, then you will terminate their administrator controls.

You might be able to terminate one or two and let word of mouth get the message out that the non-abuse policy is not just words on paper.

Have the company bean counters talk to the company lawyers about the costs of fines or fighting lawsuits from the RIAA and/or MPAA. They might see the cost of purchasing and maintaining a hardware firewall in a whole new light.

Hi...

I have two option ...

1. Gather all the team leads and project manager and ask them to spread this new amongst all the employees as a warning .

2. Secondly, ask you CEO to write a mail which provides the information and the unhealthy results of it....and send it to all the office members.....
