Hijacked wikipedia page, dangerous?
Hi,

I was browsing wikipedia yesterday when all of a sudden a page came up that said something like.

'This page has been hijacked by Zodiac, i am going to spread my little symbols to everyone on the internet, tomorrow I will take over'

Or something to that effect, I exited the page quickly because I was afraid of getting a virus or something (i revisited the page 5 mins later but it had returned to normal). The page was full of these weird symbols too...Like the size of an alphabetic character but made up of 4 digits in a square formation.

Indeed I've been seeing those funny symbols a bit lately? What are they? Should I be worried? Should I be worried about visiting the hijacked wikipedia page?

Hi and Welcome to TSG,
I do all my surfing via Sandboxie - a very simple (free)'virtual' system to add an extra layer of protection. That way I can be happy that wherever I go my laptop is safe.
http://www.sandboxie.com/
By the way, I've no connetion with Sandaboxie other than being pleased with it!
Something similar is Retunil but I can't get the link just now.
I hope this is of interest?

Hijacked pages are dangerous as they are often used to attack PCs that visit them. More dangerous than a virus is the botnet client. It takes over your pc, makes your PC a robot, and receives order from central command to send spam and attack other PCs. Hackers have been known to control botnets of over several thousand PCs.

I did a virus scan with AVG and a scan with superantispyware and both say my pc is clean, so thats good i guess.

Anyone know what those funny looking symbols i'm seeing on webpages lately are? 4 number in a square formation

like below

4 6
1 3

but the size of a single alphabetic character.
