Windows Live Onecare - is it worth the $$$$$$$
I see it is about AUD90.00 per year for 3PC's and reckon that is a bit rich for what you get!

I have been used AVG 2007 to date, got sucked into downloading the 2008 free version and now have their nag screen popping up all the time wanting money from me for the full version!

Getting a bit sick of AVG being the memory hog it is and wondering if members have other progs that do ther job just as well?

I use NOD32 myself so I have no idea about Live One Care's antivirus capability, but its firewall component doesn't do well in the Matousec tests; http://www.matousec.com/projects/fir...ge/results.php

I would recommend Avast or Avira free anti virus. They are both free and in my opinion better than AVG.

And No, LiveOneCare is not worth 90$

MikeSwim07...
I think that's $90 Australian, not U.S. It's more like $50 U.S. Still too much, though.

Oh Yeah. 50 US is still way too much.

IMHO it is a total ripoff. I have my own forum and we have a Paltalk Chatroom weekly for live tech support, and one night one of my Admins who used Live One Care on 5 pc's took in a message that infected her pc and required an image restore to fix. That night she listened to me and downloaded Nod32 and trashed Live One Care and never had an issue again.
Don't confuse Nod32 with Avg, Avira and Avast, the method of reaction is completely different. The former repulses the issue so it never gets in. The latter lets it in and does battle. Now logically, is the $29 Nod costs worth having to infect your pc and then pull the infection out? Makes no sense. Let the people who are too poor or won't pay for protection live with those things, be smarter yourself! Thje best things in life are actually NOT FREE!

Point of fact though is nothing you are using will keep anything out though. That is what we must be careful as your protection is your skill, not these products and less experienced users could easily be overrun your way.

I wouldnt even use Live OneCare let alone pay for it. If you were going to get a paid one though, i would recommend Kaspersky or Nod32. From the tests ive seen, these two have scored the highest results

As for free ones, i would recommend Avast, Avira AntiVir or a-squared

$50 for an anti-virus is way too much, when there are really great free anti-viruses.

I use Panda antivirus 2008 which costs me $30 a year but it's really great. Includes a very detailed online scanner, which works very well. If you want a free anti-virus try:

AVG but this isn't that good but it works and is free. I used to get lots of viruses when I had this, so it was never really good enough for me.

Avast - Heard lots of good things about this one, but I've never tried it.

Norton Security Scan (included with google pack and spyware doctor). Worked very well for me, for a little while.
