Is 'Symantec Technical Support Web Controls' essential for the operation of Norton 360 and what effects will there be if i uninstall it?

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to TSG.
Only info I can find is this..
Seems to be linked to Live Updates.
https://forums.symantec.com/syment/b...thread.id=1300

Not sure the same advice given would apply to you, so you may need to ask for more info at their website.

Hi Mw2005,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

The Symantec Technical Support Web Control is an Active-X module that gets installed when you click on the Support link within Norto. It is safe to remove this file but be advised that if you ever click on the One-Click support or chat feature, it will be installed again.

Thank you,
Mike

I have it installed and everytime I try to chat with Symantec Support IE prompts me to install it but nothing happens. I uninstalled it, and reinstall it everytime I have an issue with Norton.

Hi TechOutsider,

Make sure you are not using Firefox and reset the security in Internet Explorer to it's default setting. Also, clear out of the temporary internet Files.

Thanks,
Mike
