I just downloaded the new version from download.com. Unfortunately, I was not given an
opportunity to run it when it was finished. Please help Thank you

Hi Avg usually needs you to restart your system for all setting to load.
Did you restart?

When you download a program install, always choose "save" to hard drive so you can install it and reinstall it. You need to download it again.
