Site Advisor Tips (New Version Released.)
Guys,

Everyone should note that Site Advisor is SUPPOSED to Auto Update when a new version comes out. This will take some explaining:

About 3 weeks ago, I was only getting Site Advisor results on approximately every other site or PDF file searches. Red Marks, indicating the most severe warnings were not showing up. They were only showing up in the new Yahoo Beta Safe search mode, which uses the same technology as Site Advisor.

An attempted uninstall of the program caused a freezing when the site requested to fill out a survey. I had to do a computer shut down from the Task Manager. (Actually a restart mode from the Shut Down Menu in Task Manager in Windows XP). I also did a quick uninstall and reinstall and this time it went clean.

Today I got an upgrade automatically from Site Advisor. The new version auto installs on both IE and Firefox. You will know you have the new version if you use Firefox, because instead of being in the right-corner, both browsers put it in the left corner.

Later today, I had TWO versions of Site Advisor running in discovering that I had multiple ratings on each search. This was shown in the Control Panel that the auto update did NOT remove the old version, Again, the uninstaller froze when it got to the survey screen. So I had to do a Task Manager restart twice to uninstall both programs.

Users, if you see two check marks in Search results, check to see that you only have 1 version of Site Advisor installed by checking your control panel, if more than one, please remove both of them and also get a fresh download from McAfee Site Advisor's web site. (Any problems with uninstall of the old version?) Also, DELETE your old Site Advisor download folder! or file!!! (With the old version in it.) What most likely happened was that I did a new version over-ride over the old version and the old version was not completely erased. Install to a new folder. The set up will even be different.

What I am requesting from users is an E-mail address from McAfee where I can submit this feedback. I don't want to go through their crazy install the tech wizard thing that they now have on their site. I want to submit this as a bug report. Thank you! Snail mail is ok as well.

Jack

I searched high & low and all I came up with that might even remotely give you some satisfaction is here;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Bug_reports
I was a software hardware test engineer for 2 years and it's amazing how hard companies make it to submit a bug...

Don't waist your time with >> bugs@pcworld.com or there abouts...
I have submitted many to them and never heard so much as an auto-response Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

Thanks for the info,

I did contact McAfee about these issues through a letter to their New York office. Based on Site Advisor working on and off at various times during the day, they appear to be working on it. Users might experience slow tab closing in IE 7 when this version does not indicate a site color. This version seems to have a few bugs. Let's hope for a fix in the coming weeks.

As of a day and a half ago, all seems to be ok.
