Unmountable_boot_volume
From what I remember this happened, I was browsing on Mozilla when all of a sudden I get a prompt indicating "Malicious Spyware detected" and my screen gets overwhelmed with these little 'OK' & 'CANCEL' windows. As I hit cancel for all the laptop shuts down by itself. I press the power button and it goes to a black screen that says:

"We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this."

It lets me decide if I want to select "Safe Mode" or the other choices. Its as if I had pressed F8 when the thing was running through it's BIOS. If I select Safe Mode, It all goes as usual when selecting Safe Mode, then a bunch of code comes up and it just stays on the screen for about 30 seconds, then proceeds to a BLUE screen which says:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove and newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x000000ED (0x85796B80, 0XC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Anyone got an answer? It also directs me to this BLUE screen when I don't select Safe Mode. Either way, it seems like I'm stuck on this screen and it doesn't load windows beyond the BLACK Microsoft Windows XP logo with loading bar. All selections send me back to the BLUE screen Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Last Known Good Configuration, or Start Windows Normally.

You are infested by malware that has damaged your installation of XP.

" 1.The file system is damaged and cannot be mounted."

try the "resolution" in the article

If it boots after the chkdsk, Then use this software to try and remove the infestation.
