Avira Antivir is a piece of junk
I used to have Avira Antivir. Then I got a rogue antispyware virus. I tried removing twice with Antivir (and Spyware Doctor) and it would not go away. Then i got Windows Live OneCare, ran a scan with it, and the virus was gone. I had no more popups. This just goes to show that you get what you pay for. Usually if you use a free Antivirus, then it will not work nearly as well as an antivirus that you pay for (except for Norton, Norton is just a piece of junk).

I'm surprised to hear you say this. I've used Avira for a few years and have had no problems, and I've heard it recommend by others too. But I'm sorry you couldn't get rid of that virus with it.

Wow, that's surprising. Avira is usually quite good. No anti-virus is perfect but some are better than others. I do agree with you that Norton is junk. Some free anti-viruses work quite well but a lot of them don't.
Glad you got it sorted out.

actually it is one of the most thorough anti-virus apps on the market with the highest detection rate of them all
but none are 100% on everything
I for one would like to know what "rogue antispyware virus" that you got
so we can be more educated...
