Trial ver removed trojans; but report still shows "Active Threats".

How do I address the active threats - not sure if they were also treated..they're all referring to viruslist.com ... advisories..?? and they're all high threats.

Shows high threat stuff - many.A few it shows were neutralized but a large list remains and you cant tell if that stuff still resides or if it was dealt with.

Many detections are already quarantined by various programs so not a threat.

There are a couple of infected e-mails.

Delete this one from your Outlook Express Inbox
[From:<service@paypal.com>][Subject:Unauthorized access to your account][Time:2005/07/29 10:05:00]/text/html

and this one from your Sent Items:
[From:"brookbendcustservice" <email address removed][Subject:Re: CitiBank Custom Notice email address removed][Time:2007/01/19 00:03:50]/text/html

The vulnerabilities means that all those programs are not up to date and therefore vulernable to exploit.

Check to make sure you get the latest MS updates and Service Packs for your Office installation.

Adobe needs to be updated.

Java is a very old version. You need to get the latest one and remove all older versions.

That's what those are telling you.

You can also run Secunia to see what applications are outdated. It might give a better reading.

Thanx - that's all simple to do. Funny thing - CitiBank. I saw that come in and it looked phishy. I deleted it. Hard to believe in the absence of an attachment malware can still get in. Good luck to you.

It might be a good idea to post a HijackThis log to see if all is fine.

  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I'm signing off for the night but will check back in the morning.

Open HijackThis and click on "Config" and then on the "Misc Tools" button. If you're viewing HijackThis from the Main Menu then click on "Open the Misc Tools Section". Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button. Click the "Save List" button. Copy and paste that list here please.

You're welcome.

Here are some final instructions for you.

Follow these steps to uninstall Combofix and all of its files and components.
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

The following program will remove some of the tools we've used and their associated files and backups and then it will delete itself.

Please download OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Make sure you have an Internet Connection.
  • Double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right-click on OTMoveIt2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Click on the CleanUp! button
  • A list of tool components used in the cleanup of malware will be downloaded.
  • If your firewall or real-time protection attempts to block OTMoveIt2 to reach the Internet, please allow the application to do so.
  • Click Yes to begin the cleanup process and remove these components, including this application which will delete itself.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the cleanup process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Now you should turn system restore off to flush out all previous system restore points, then turn it back on and create a new restore point:

To turn off system restore, on the Desktop, right click on My Computer and click on Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.

To create a new restore point, click on StartAll ProgramsAccessoriesSystem Tools and then select System Restore.

In the System Restore wizard, select Create a restore point and click the Next button.

Type a name for your new restore point then click on Create.

I also recommend downloading SPYWAREBLASTER for added protection.

Read here for info on how to tighten your security.

Delete Temporary Files:

Go to Start - Run and type in cleanmgr and click OK.
Let it scan your system for files to remove.
Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
Press OK to remove them.
