Computer dead?
Friend has a Dell 3100...was surfing net when he got the infamous "can't connect to the internet" script. Tried the usual remedies, no luck, then hit restart. Computer shut down and then started back up but nothing will now come up on the monitor...nothing at all.

The monitor is fine...tested on another computer. And, also tried reconnecting it via the USB port...still nothing.

I've never run into a problem like this. His year warranty with Dell just expired so it would be expensive to get online or local help and since this is a pretty inexpensive comp anyway he doesn't want to sink in 1/3 the cost of a new cpu if he can avoid it.

Any ideas?

So does he see the memory counting BIOS screen, and the Windows sliding bar back and forth?

Can he boot into Safe Mode? If he can, then do a System Restore in Safe Mode.
