Will someone tell me which free program to use to scan my computer for malware?
Is just using SUPERAntispyware enough?
How about Housecall?

Thanks!

Avast
Windows Firewall
AVG Antispyware

I agreed with channa.

I also recommend CWShredder, which can be downloaded at
http://www.intermute.com/products/cwshredder.html

Another program used by many is Spybot S&D, which can be downloaded at
http://www.download.com/Spybot-Searc...-10122137.html

Use the Immunize function, but NOT the Tea Timer since many users have had problems with it.

The last one is SpywareBlaster, which acts like a firewall. It can be downloaded at
http://www.majorgeeks.com/SpywareBlaster_d2859.html

I like to be extra safe. Different programs catch different infections. They also deal with infections in different ways, especially tracking cookies.

Notice that it only cleans and detects spyware.

OK, thanks! I have downloaded:

Malwarebytes Anti Malware 1.22
Spybot S&D
SpywareBlaster
CWShredder

I now have three questions...

I can't find the icon to start CWShredder. Is it here somewhere or do I have to download it everytime I want to run it?

Are any of these programs running all the time or do they scan only when I run them?

How often should I plan to run each program?

Thanks for all your help.

cw shredder doesn't have an install routine. it is just a standalone exe file. you use the file you downloaded, if you still have it, to open it.

none of them have realtime although many of them have a paid versions which do.

i would plan to schedule them to full scan at least once a week. it would be good if you could schedule them in the middle of the night where it won't annoy you.
