All registry cleaners are dangerous and a scam. Don't be taken in by them.

Do you have a backup that was created by the so-called "cleaner"?

You could try a system restore.
You will not get back your programs but worth a try.
Click Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.

Why not to use a reg cleaner..

As blues_harp28 said, a System Restore is the best thing thet start with. Can you get to it? If not, can you boot to Safe Mode with command prompt?

Try.
Type.
%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Or a repair install.
XP-Repair install.
Insert the XP cd in the CD ROM Drive then switch on the computer.

You will receive the following message:

This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer:

To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.
To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.
To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.
----------------------------------------------------------
DO NOT at this point select R.... DO NOT SELECT R

Select ENTER
----------------------------------------------------------
On the Windows XP Licensing Agreement screen
Press F8 to agree to the license agreement

Select current installation of Windows XP.and then

Press R to repair Windows XP.
----------------------------------------------------------
Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to repair Windows.
After you repair Windows , you may have to reactivate your copy of Windows XP

First make sure you have d/loaded an Anti-virus and Firewall or you will just add to your problems.
Your programs are probably gone for good.
What Windows system files are you missing apart from System restore..Defrag ??

doing that as we speak, but i think its also corrupt my downloading options, i tried to download a cleaner yesterday, and the file is incorrrect and wont instal, i think ive well intruley done it over this time. My other idea is , im going to ring a freind, who i will borrow a usb drive off and download the antivrus and firewall today and install them via that way. I then will perhaps, just have to use my computer without system restore, which is bad, as i have used that alot. Im happy to try any other options,, its a pity you cant download system restore from the net???? and then i could install it via the usb drive im going to get...

What happens when you try the command line suggested by blues_harp28?

Hi the registry cleaner has wiped many of your Windows files and you may find other applications will not work.
That is what they often do.

Check.
Start>run type:
gpedit.msc
Enter
Find computer configuration>administrative templates>system>system
restore.
Double click system restore and click enable
It may or not be there.
Edit.. the above may be for Win Pro only.

I think you'll need a CD drive. I saw one DVD drive listed for $27, they're cheap nowadays.
