Firewall question
Ok since Cookiegal decided to close my last question..........

I just need to know if there is another firewall besides the Vista firewall I can put on my laptop that will block incoming connections?

And I wanted to thank valis for all the help so far.....

Vista's firewall is pretty good for me. You have to go to Start> Administrative Tools > Windows Firewall with Advanced Security to see all of it's controls.

If you don't see administrative tools, you have right click on the start button > properties > Start Menu > Customize and make that menu appear. ( near the end of the scroll list )

RangerFan,

There are a number of freeware and shareware products available on the web. They each offer ways to help you protect your system. I would suggest that you fire up your search engine of choice and see what is available.

I used ZoneAlarm several years and have also tried BlackIce. You will need to find one that is appropriate for your level of ability because if it is too hard, you will not use it.

for a better advice just buy a linksys router for it helps in securing your connections.. it wont cost a lot! and you can always rely on this merchandise since you are concern in your security.. scalability issues are also addressed, if someone wants to work or share with you, you can just let him connect via network on the router not by physical utp cable.,

Hi RangerFan,

If you do purchase a Linksys router - make sure you change the default admin password (a well-known vector of attack)!

I believe for what you are trying to accomplish, a firewall isn't going to help you. The only way you can keep people from accessing your computer is to NOT GIVE THEM access to ANYTHING....including the router.
