Solved: Can't update msi error Norton products
My friend insists on using norton products and I can not get IS 08 or Norton 360 to install. He bought internet securtity and it keeps on coming up "can not update msi file" with a link to symantecs website that says to

rename the following MSI files:
ren msi.dll msi.old
ren msihnd.dll msihnd.old
ren msiexec,exe msiexec.old

then run WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86

still comes up with the same error

I tried the trial version of 360 and it still says the same thing.

I also tried nortons removal tool and still the same problem when I try to install.

msi clean up utility does not work either

What do you mean "doesn't work"?

Has there been any "tweaker" used? Any registry cleaner?

It won't even run. I get an error message when I try to run it. I forgot the exact message. I will post tomorrow when I go back to the computer.
