I would get off Norton NOW. Soon you will find your computer extraordinarily slow even after a full uninstall of Norton.
Of all the tests for antivirus software I have seen, this is probably the best FREE mix:
Antivirus: Avast OR Avira AntiVir Personal Edition NOT BOTH
Antispyware: SUPERAntiSpyware, Javacool SpywareBlaster and Malwarebytes AntiMalware
Heuristics: PC Tools ThreatFire
Firewall: Comodo Firewall Pro
Email: Mozilla ThunderBird
Browser: Mozilla Firefox
Browser Anonymizer: JAP/JonDo/JonDonym
Browser Keystroke Anonymizer: KeyScrambler Personal
Browser Sites Blocker: IE-SPYAD
Advanced Encryption: TrueCrypt
Basic Encryption: AxCrypt
File Hider: TwistedPear Camouflage
I would definitely NOT use Grisoft’s AVG, Spybot: Search & Destroy, Lavasoft’s Ad-Aware or either of Window’s Firewalls. The first three have TERRIBLE detection rates and Window’s Firewall is definitely better than XP's but is still not that great.
Also, if it's no big deal, run Windows in a Limited User Account. That way, if something is trying to install something without your notification, Windows won't let them. But that also means whenever you want to install something you have to switch accounts.
As for paid ones, Kaspersky and NOD32 take the cake.
