Strange pop up
Chaps

When I start up my PC, a medium size pop up comes up. It looks like a window box and is entitled ..... Welcome to the new found Wizard.

It asks for me to insert a disc and to install this wizard. Evidently it will look for and update software.

Anyone any idea what this is. I keep cancelling it but it just returns the nexxt time I start the pc.

Also how do I get rid of it.

Many thanks

Mick

Hi you may need to update some software.
Check.Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device manager.
Any yellow exclamation marks?

Does the pop up say what needs updating?

Hi blues_harp28

Thanks for the reply

I did as you suggested and there is file in yellow called "other devices"

That has two sub folders called

1. PCI simple communications controller

2. SM Bus controller.

The pop up did mention PCI

What do I do now ?

Regards

Mick

PCI Simple Communications Controller is for an added PCI modem
SMBus controller is integrated into most Intel chipsets.
You may need to d/load Modem and Chipsets drivers.

Is your system running ok?

If your Pc is running ok it may mean that the above are detected but not installed.
Right click on each one>properties what does it say?
Also click on drivers and see if it says they are installed ok or need updating.

Hi blues_harp28

I have clicked on properties and there is really nothing there.

It cannot install because I get a message that it cannot find the necessary hardware.

So what do I do now.

Regards

Mick

Hi Blackmirror

I disabled them and the pop up no longer appears, so thats solved that little problem.

I take it disabling it does not create another problem.

Many thanks
