security but now OS
Hello

I am a computer novice, so please be gentle!

ok, on Monday I managed to develop a virus which when I investigated asked me to spend £49.95 for a removal software. I thought I would do a system restore, only to find that in windows all the old ones had gone and the most recent one was after the virus was downloaded....(I assume that the virus deleted old ones?)

I decided I would then back up all my importnant files and photos on a magic stick and reinstall windows....and have magic sticks here

My Laptop is Dell and comes with a Windows XP home edition op system cd rom and another called drievers and utilities , both state already installed on computer

I loaded the OPperating system disc and entered the seriel number. This took about about an hour and I assumed this would wipe my stsem bare. However, when I now turn the computer on things are worse than before

It asks me to activate windows or forces m,e to log off. I cant activate as It says it cant find a internet connection, AND i can see in the background the VIRUS warning which states

Warning! Win 32/Adware.Virtumonde
Warning! Win32/PrivacyRemover. M64

This is exactly the same as the message was before I reloaded the Windows XP....or tried too

So confused.....

I am wondering if the CD actually came with the virus, to activate XP without the use of the Internet, it will have to be done by phone instead.

See the link below for the phone details

How come you got infected so fast? The first thing to do after an installation of windows, is to go do Windows Update. Don't surf anywhere before doing windows update. Then the next thing is to install your security software - antivirus, antispyware and firewall.
I am wondering if some of your software is infected. I assume after installing windows, you went about installing the software that you use.
