Internet access vs Network access
I have a question, I am setting up a home network I am wanting to set one computer up strictly as a print server (my wireless router does not have print server capabilities). Is there a way with PC Cillin that I can configure the firewall to block all internet traffic to that computer but still let the other computers access for printing? The computer I will be using for a print server is an old Dell Dimension running Win 98. The others are 2 laptops, 1 with XP and 1 with Vista and a Dual G5 Tower (MAC) running OS 10 tiger Thank You

I don't use PC Cillin firewall, but the principle is the same as configuring any firewall. First you want to make sure that your laptops and Mac tower always use the same ip. If they use DHCP to automatically obtain an ip address, then you should make them use static IPs. Then in the firewall, you put in an allow incomming rule for each of your PCs. eg Allow 192.168.0.42 inbound. After those rules you put a Block ALL rule as the last rule.

Open a command prompt and type 'ipconfig' , note your ip address. For most people, this ip address is auto assigned by the router. So lets say your ip address is:
192.168.1.150
and netmask is :
255.255.255.0

The netmask lines up with the ip address (4 groups of 3 digits) . The netmask of 255.255.255.0 means that you can pick any ip number ( 1-254 ) for that part that has a 0. The router assigned ip address shown above has autoassigned 150. If you want to pick one yourself, you can therefore pick for example 192.168.1.14. In other words, the netmask says 0 for the last group of 4 numbers, so you can pick any number for the that last group in the ip address. And do not change the first 3 groups, because their mask is 255.

Go to Control Panel > Network Connections > right click Local Area Connection > Properties > select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP ) > click Properties button > select "use the following ip address radio button. Then type in your selected ip address.
