Autolock XP on startup
Hi,

I'm trying to find out if i can autolock xp on startup.

I've just got myself a new pc and given the old one to the kids, i'm trying to stop any of the little devils getting onto my new pc!

From what i understand, If i set up a username & password this wont stop them getting on they just have to cancel that and then windows will start.

Is there a way i can get my computer to automatically lock on start up and only give access to a username & password?(mine will be the only username & password)

Thanks

If you are on windows XP you should not be able to click cancel to automatically logon without a password. This worked on windows 98.
To set a password go to start>control panel>user accounts>change an account(assuming your account is already set up)> click on create a password.

Talking This Might help
I'm sure you can find a routine that will do this on startup but here is a general Idea

http://www.rohos.com/

Here is the Official Microsoft site for shortcut keys...
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301583 Here you will find the keys needed to be implemented on start-up..
You can write a script to do that on start-up...
I'm sure if you check google...there is already a script written like that

I found this:
http://www.geekbb.com/showthread.php?t=494

This tutorial is one of the best i've found in a while. This will automatically start up, but then lock down for those with privacy issues. This is great if you have a power brown out and it will relogon your messengers, etc. instead of stopping at lockdown.

Note: It is only recommended you do this if you are the only user on the computer

Click Start -> Goto 'Run' -> Type in 'cmd' or 'command' -> type in CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2

Click your username -> Uncheck Users must enter a username and password to use this computer

Right click the start button -> Click Explore -> In the left pane, goto Programs -> Startup

Right click -> Goto New -> Goto Shortcut and type in %windir%\system32\rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation -> Give it a name of your choice

Note: this is not My personal Info..I found this at the Sites listed above

Just put a password on your account. They can't get past the login screen. The "cancel" option is from Windows 98.

If you enter BIOS setup when the machine starts, you may be able to set a password there so they can't even get to the login screen.
