Solved: Online Verification?
I received the following email from "Halifax Bank Plc" <service@halifax.co.uk> recently. Is it genuine or not? I have an account with Halifax but I never gave them the email address that I received this communication from.
Quote:
Dear Customer,

During our usual security enhancement protocol,We observed multiple login attempt error while login in to your online Halifax Bank account. We have believed that someone other than you is trying to access your account. For security reasons,we have temporarily suspend your account and your access to online banking and will be restricted if you fail to update.
Please click on the Reference below to initiate the verification process and re-confirm your membership details.

https://online.halifax.co.uk/customer.ibc/

We apologize for the inconvenience
Halifax Bank Plc.
Only individuals who have Halifax Bank Plc account and authorized access to Internet Banking should proceed beyond this point.
For the security of customers, any unauthorised attempt to access customer bank information will be monitored and may be subject to legal action

The grammar and spelling indicate that that is fake, as does the statement that 'we have temporarily suspend your account'.

I get these occasionally but usually for places I don't have accounts. Halifax probably have a place on thier (genuine) website where you can report these things, otherwise just delete it

Thanks for the advise.
I received another one just now:
Quote:
Egg Bank has been receiving complaints from our customers for unauthorised use of the Egg Online accounts. As a result we periodically review Egg Online Accounts and temporarily restrict access of those accounts which we think are vunerable to the unauthorised use.

This message has been sent to you from Egg Bank because we have noticed invalid login attempts into your account, due to this we are temporarily limiting and restricting your account access until we confirm your identity.

To confirm your identity and remove your account limitation please click on YOUR ACCOUNT below.

Your Account...
I do not have an account with Egg Bank. I have never even heard of Egg Bank until now!
I will just delete these messages. They are a pain in the arse though, taking up space in my inbox.

At least it's better written than the other one! Presumably whoever translated it from the original Russian/Chinese/Serbo Croat? script did a better job that the other lot.

I work on the assumption that all these things are bogus, but if I ever got one from somewhere I did have an account, I would ring to check if they actually sent it.
