Solved: Google Virus/Redirect
This moring I started to have a problem with Google. When I go to search for anything the results come up but when I click on a result I directed to one of several ad sites. The only other problem seems to be that it is blocking me from this site. It also appears to block access to any site relating to virus/malware protection

The problem is on my desktop and I am doing this on my laptop

I ran a Norton scan and it showed no problems. I am currently running an ad aware scan

UPDATE: The adaware showed no problems but I was unable to update the definitions.

I am running Windows XP and it happens in both Firefox and IE.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi can you run an online scan to double check Norton?
http://housecall.trendmicro.com
Spyware program d/load?
http://www.superantispyware.com
D/load>update>scan.
If no joy, you will need to post a Hjt log for the log expert to check.

Blues Harp,

Given I am experiencing the same problem as the OP I thought I should chime in. People are getting swamped with these viruses yesterday and today because of a series of nasty infected files circulating the torrent community.

The virus he is describing will block your internet access to all websites dealing with spyware removal or virus protection. Moreover, just being on the internet with this thing installed is playing with fire because it will periodically redirect you to a site which forces you to download more viruses into your system.

I am on my backup machine, and bringing my PC to the technician's tomorrow morning.

After 2.5 days of trying to resolve I found Spy Ware Doctor did the trick but it did cost me 30 bucks. I didn't want to pay for a fix but I was desperate as the computer was needed for work. It will scan and detect for free but to remove items you need to pay the fee which is good for a year. I had to go thru a laborious process with my laptop and infected computer because as Corgi points out you cannot access any sites that may help.
