Change in number of files scanned by virus detector
I did a full scan today and this caught my eye. It scanned 23,000 files. So I checked back and found it usually scans in the 34,000 range. This lower # of files scanned started June 2 and has continued in this range. I do a full scan once a week. I also do updates daily. I use Norton and have a fire wall. I haven't deleted any programs. I have XP.

Anyone else notice this?

I remember some antivirus has a option to check only infectable files or to check all files. Maybe that option has been changed.

I was wondering about something like that. I haven't had any problems from the time this first started occurring so I am not concerned about having a virus. (Famous last words). Norton has given me some options to check this out, but I am planning on purchasing 2008 very soon and may just wait.

I also thought that MS may have put something in the Updates that I was not aware of.

Thanks for the reply.

Did you get SP3? It is all the updates from SP2 through SP3. This may cause number of files to change.
Music files and documents count as well. Have you cleaned PC in this way?

I'm still on SP2. My computer is pretty clean. I don't have a lot of documents and I don't fool around with music. I surf the net for info mostly or to buy something. I am just going to install Norton 2008 as my subscription is up in a few days and see what happens.

Thanks for the input!
