Afaria Security Manager +BeCrypt
I have a client who has a laptop that he wants to reformat and install Windows XP on. This laptop has Afaria Security Manager on it. This is a full disk encryption program that prompts for a password on startup in order for you to gain access to the harddrive. The only option it seems to give you is to enter the password and then it boots into windows. I cannot boot a windows install off of CD-Rom because it tries to access the hard drive. The access portion comes AFTER the system checks for bootable CDs. Is there a way to get this encryption software OFF this drive?

Anyone familiar with Afaria. I posted on their forums as well but get no response. I also get the run around from their telephone support.

Hi,

I'm unfortunately not familiar with that software, but am with some security apps similar to it. Tech support generally will deal only with the owner/licensee of their program.

The support here is none, as we have no way to determine exactly what the intentions or situation might be.

Sorry, but we are not allowed to assist with this type of security software, or bypassing passwords, either. I am Closing your thread.

The owner should be the one dealing with the security tech support> it's something we often find with today's newer notebooks. Please inform the owner and see if their techs will be willing to help after they go through the routine security type authorizations with the owner.

Interestingly, some types of security apps like this pass the location of the computer on to the company.

I have a locked IBM ThinkPad with a security chip on the motherboard, foolishly before I knew, I tried to reset the BIOS, and the old password RE-enabled itself, along with a hard disk password, so I was & am still totally locked out. I cannot even format the drive, nor see anything at all on it, nor can any other hard drive be used IN that laptop! Would cost more than it's worth to have it unlocked.
