avg
using windows xp. have used avg free for years with no problems
just recently, i daily get the icon on the taskbar turning red and am told that the update manager connection failed.
my last scan was completed each morning and same for the update.
i then have to manually update and everything becomes normal again.
what has gone wrong???


HELP !!!!!!!!!!

I would suggest doing a totall uninstall then reinstall and see if that clears it up. if you know how clean the registry as well once u have uninstalled then reboot and reinstall ..

Uninstalling and reinstalling AVG won't solve the problem. This problem with the update manager occurs occasionally since AVG was upgraded from 7.5 to 8.0.

When it does, go here to download the latest definition file. Ignore the "editor's note". Save the downloaded file somewhere - preferably in a folder on your desktop or on the desktop where it's easy to find.

Right-click the AVG taskbar icon and then click "Open AVG User Interface".

When the AVG window appears, click Tools - Update From Directory.

When the "Browse For Folder" window appears, browse to the location you saved the file and then click OK.

After the definition update has been installed, you can deleted the saved downloaded file.

Same thing happened to me yesterday,but today its back to normal,suspect yours might be the same,was probably just a temporary blip .....
