Restricted Sites
Hi,

A while ago I blocked a site on Internet Explorer but now wish to unblock it. I have tried going on Internet options and then searching through the list of restricted sites but cannot find the site yet it is clearly in the restricted zone as an icon comes up with I go on it.

Would really appreciate help!

Thanks - Emma

Manually tell it to allow it in trusted sites and see what happens.
Firewall blocking the site?
HOSTS file blocking the site?
What is the site? have you tried it from a different PC, or browser?

You have blocked it something like this?

1. Load your Internet explorer
2. Click Tools
3. Click Internet Options
4. Click the Privacy tab
5. Under the Privacy window, Click Sites
6. Type in the site address that you want to Block and Click OK.

If it so then to Unblock it just remove it from the list.

In response to the second reply, yes that was how I restricted the site and I assumed that the method you mentioned would work but the site is simply not on the list. The website works fine on other computers. I am certain that it is not because of a firewall or anything like that because when I go onto the site on the internet explorer window there is the icon which indicates that the site is a restricted site. I entered it as a trusted site but is still restricted.

Do you have Spybot search & destroy installed?
*Read about how a HOSTS files works and then check it;
http://www.google.com/search?q=hosts...ient=firefox-a
**If it is 100% for sure not there then we go from there OK

I wonder if the IE restriction operation amends your Hosts file, which would definitely prevent you from reaching it? Do a 'find files' search for 'hosts' and see what comes up.

Hosts files are text documents which should open up in Notepad or Wordpad. If the URL of the site you refer to is in the Hosts file, edit it out, reboot and try to connect again.

Thanks for the replies.

I do have Spybot Search and Destroy installed but it was installed before I restricted the site - I wish I hadn't now though! I only did so after an exam which I found really hard and I wanted to make sure I didn't view a forum discussing it because I knew it would make me feel worse . Now when I log into the site (I can still access it) I am constantly logged out and the page doesn't display properly. I have attached an image of the icon that appears.

I found the Hosts file and there was a really long list of 'entries inserted by Spybot' but the site I restricted wasn't there.

If you can actually get to the site that rules out your hosts file because you would not be able to reach it at all but would only get a 404 'page not available', or some other error message.

I don't use IE myself so I have no idea what may be causing the problem. Have you tried reaching the site with another browser, such as Opera or Firefox?

The only other browser I have is AOL and the same thing happens - I can get onto the site but it doesn't display properly and there is a 'restricted sites' icon.

Have you tried Firefox Browser to see if that helps?
The site is still being blocked from the settings you made or some software on your PC, Firewall maybe?

You need to try a non Active X browser, like Firefox or Opera, because the AOL browser is basically IE with an AOL 'skin' applied to it. The changes you made to IE's settings will almost certainly be affecting AOL's browser as well.
