Firefox security warning
I recieved a warning while using firefox stating that i have a virus or something similar on my comp. I have used spybot to do a full system scan that has found a few items, but my Mcafee found nothing. Is this me being paranoid or is there a virus on my comp that my Mcafee has not found? I am now trying a kaspersky online scan but its taking hours. I have only just got my computer so am a bit disapponted my Mcafee hasnt found a thing.

Could someone tell me whether the warning means i was going/got a virus on my comp?? Or am i hunting a red herring?

Thanks

Sarah

Hi Sarah and welcome.
Is this a pop up that appears in your Firefox browser?
What is the message that you are given?

As far as i am aware there is not 1 anti spyware or anti virus program that catches everything, that's why you run more than 1 anti spyware, they don't conflict with each other, but you can only run 1 anti virus because they will conflict, they see each other as virus's.

Firefox itself should not do this so either your AV came up warning you or you was a a site that pop-up saying you had something but no site can do that because they just want to scare you into downloading there software that will not fix anything and many time do harm.

Hi Sarah,

If you do not already have the Firefox add-on, NoScript, I suggest you download and install it from here. That alone will boost the security of Firefox from cross-scripting malware. You need to set the options properly though, so ask for help if you need it. The latest release of NoScript is 1.8.3.6 October 27, 2008.
