Question XP 2009 Antispyware
I got the red circle with the white X on the control bar which pops up a window stating "my computer is infected!" and it prompts me to install the XP 2009 Antispyware. I know it's fake and I have not installed the program but the window keeps popping up and that darn circle won't go away.

Can someone please help?
Thanks

Yes it is bad software so DO NOT install it or even click on the pop-up.

I haven't installed it, but I clicked on the X -- that's how I saw the prompt for the XP 2009 Spyware installation. Even though I didn't install it, I think it's slowing down the computer and, like I said, that icon is still there.

How do I uninstall/remove this from my pc?

You better post a HijackThis log in the Malware Removal & HijackThis Logs and see if you got anything on your computer.

I guess you use IE also because I use Firefox and don't get any pop-ups. I also use NoScript that helps even more and also have a hosts file that blocks out ads and bad sites.
You can use a hosts file to block out sites. It is good to have but you need to check that your computer is clean first.
