Old fire Chief got fired and won't give out any passwords he had set up.Any help?
I'm a firefighter for a fairly small town and and our Chief just got the ax (he got screwed and all of us our mad about it) and he was the only one who had the administrative passwords for all the computers and files, routers, etc... and he's not telling a sole. I don't blame him and am kinda glad he did it but it can get him in a lot of legal trouble doing it.

I'm the closest thing they have here to a tech guy for the stuff so I've been given full access to all this in hopes that I can get the passwords figured out. I think he just used one PW for most everything(windows XP comps btw) and was hoping for some help from you guys to figure out the best way to go about cracking it. due to the amount of stuff involved I would really like to get the pw rather than having to circumvent every one of the systems and due to documents on the systems we need formatting or resetting the admin pw isn't really an option.

Any ideas for me?

Any thoughts are appreciated and as i said before, I can poke around on these as much as I need to, shy of the locked out stuff.

rules here won't help cracking passwords
sounds like negotiation between the boss and him is the only way pay him for the info or reformat and start again

closed for reasons stated

we can't verify your intent so we don't get involved in passwords at all.It is much safer that way
