Hi,
I was just trying to play a CD on the PC, so I opened Real Player,( can't remember the last time I used it ). Under File-->Open there are 5 X-rated audio samples. This is on our Limited User account. However, it shows up the same on the Admin account. The samples appear to be playing from a link in Real Player's address bar...at a place called....audiosex...dot com.
I scanned the Real Player folder under Programs using updated AVG and MalwareBytes, nothing. Any hidden malware/spyware concern here?
Should we look deeper? If so, how? Also, how do I get rid of those listed under File
--> Open?

Hi there, reporting a thread isn't the proper method of receiving help.

This is probably in the wrong forum, but, I would venture to say that if the files show up as the ones being played, someone played them.....although I could be wrong

You might post a Hijack This log to this thread for some follow up.

I apologize for reporting this. I waited four days, and then the Bump, then two more days. I wasn't sure another Bump would have helped. If this is not the correct forum, can you suggest, and move this please? Or should I just post the HJT log here? Thanks again for your time.

Well, I can at least help you clear the history. This is based on Real player 8. may be a litte different in other versions.

Open real player, slect view and then preferences. Click the general tap and then click "clear location bar" and then ok.

If that works, it pretty much guarantees that someone intentionally played those files.

Jtoast, I just tried your suggestion on both, my Limited user and Admin accounts, and the bad samples stay there. Also under the General tab is; how many files to show in the drop downlist, mine is set for 8. I did not want to set that to zero since the files may still be somewhere, just not shown.

Looks fine other than the Java which is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application. Beware it is NOT supported for use in 9x or ME and probably will not install in those systems

Upgrading Java:

• Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 10.
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
• Select your Platform and check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 10 License Agreement.".
• Click on Continue.
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation (jre-6u10-windows-i586-p.exe) and save it to your desktop. Do NOT use the Sun Download Manager..
• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
• Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
• Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
• Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
• Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
• Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
• Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

You might try uninstalling and re-installing real player. If some else suggested this sorry for the duplicate suggestion. If that doesn't work, clear out your internet cache. Download ccleaner.

Thank you cybertech. I will work on updating Java when I'm off. I searched Real Player's forum for "samples", and the following link is the only thing there that seems similar to my issue. The posts to it are old, and there are no solutions. One of the posters, stated they searched for the files on their machine, deleted them, and after a restart, they had some Windows problems. Hard to say if what they did is related. Should this go to the XP, Multimedia or All Other Software forum now? I don't see that it matters who is in the house and who has used the computer. The problem as I understand it is removing the links or history from Real Player.

My current machine was built in September and I don't have Real Player loaded as I have had no reason use it.


How about simply removing Real Player, deleting the associated folder from Program Files and starting with a new download should you decide it's a program that you need or want?
