Unhappy ZoneAlarm and Windows Vista - Permission Problems
Hello. My friend recently bought a new computer that came with Windows Vista. One of the first things she did was install the latest version of ZoneAlarm for Vista. She has been experiencing the following problem:

- Everything runs fine at startup.
- At some point, most (if not all) programs decide they don't want to run. New instances of a program will give an error saying that Windows does not have the appropriate permissions. For example, she could be running Firefox, then she could close Firefox and try to reopen it and get that error.
- The error does not show itself if she shuts down ZoneAlarm.
- Rebooting fixes the problem temporarily, but it inevitably returns to the error during that session.

We've tried deleting the database files and uninstalling/reinstalling ZoneAlarm. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, does anyone know how to fix it?

It seems that it's definitely ZA because the problem doesn't exist if ZA is shut off. The computer was brand new so it seems unlikely that there are any extraneous programs interfering with ZA. I saw some chatter about this on the Internet but I haven't come up with many leads past "reinstall", which hasn't worked. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the exact same problem. Not only does my system do all of the above but frequently ZA will 'disconnect' my system from the outside world, i.e. I´ll open a browser window and nothing happens, it just spins and nothing comes up. Then I´ll check the network status symbol in the bottom right corner and sure enough it will show status as ´Local' only. All I need to do to restore internet connection is to shut down ZA (no need to re-boot, just shut it down). Can´t seem to find a solution to this.

I've been a paying, multi-license user of ZA Pro for several years but can´t see renewing the license if this doesn´t get fixed by them ASAP.

If anyone knows a work-around or settings tweak that will fix this I would greatly appreciate it.

UPDATE: Forgot to mention that these problems started with version 8.0 of ZA, prior to that I'd been using ZA on Vista for several months with no problems to speak of
