Recent Issue with Norton AntiVirus 2009; Went Back to 2008...worse
Hello,
First post. I found this site by googling ccCommon. Will try to be succinct. Been using Norton AntiVirus for years. No problems. Got an offer to try 2009 until my subscription was up. Fine. While I'm fairly computer literate, I could not install this. Tried uninstalling. Finally got onto Live Chat (they say 'no long wait - what!!??). Was #475 in queue. Took six hours to wait, missed a conference call, and took almost two hours to fix. Tech uninstalled and reinstalled. Great.

Within a week the icon was missing. I clicked on the Program and tried to open Norton. Wouldn't open. To Live Chat again. This time waited four hours and took another one-two hours to uninstall all old version and reinstall. Great.

Within a week the icon is gone again. Won't open. It's late. I figure the queue has to be shorter. Oh, joy, I'm number 5! I only wait three hours! This tech offers me 2008 again, since I was never having trouble with it. I ask what happens when I'm forced to 2009 at the end of the month? No reply to that, though asked more than once. 2008 it is. Takes over two hours. I finally cut the tech free (although they were to tell me how to opt out of the Neighborhood Community Forum thing they put me into I didn't want - never addressed that despite several inquiries) while 2008 was still updating. Oops. Didn't install right. I get ccCommon and Windows Installer constantly coming up when I use Windows, and I use my computer for self-employed work...I'm always on it. The Errors I get are 1722, 3038 and 104. Problem with installer package and internal program error after installing a Norton 2008 product.

At this point I WILL NOT do Live Chat again. Can't take it, and they obviously cannot help. Three tries is more than plenty. I am eager to uninstall and go with The Shield Deluxe 2009, which gets higher marks than Norton. Anyone have input? IF, and only IF, someone out there (Norton Tech Guys) know of an easy, won't-take-six-hours-and-screw-up-computer way to fix my problem...I read through the threads, but didn't see exactly my issue, I'd love to know what to do.

I did run RegCure and ParetoLogic to correct problems on the computer and any internet issues. Tried NAV again. I think it may have deleted my ccCommon file, and not sure that was good.

Help, please!

Over the past week I've had no end of trouble with my IE7 under Vista. Running slow and freezing.

Tonight I deinstalled Norton 360 V2 and all the issues appear to have gone. All I want is a simple Anti virus and spyware protection suite. The One Care product from microsoft seems too overblown. I tried Norton internet security 2009 and Live update won't run properly. Their chat session doesn't appear to be working and for some reason I can't post on their forum.

Has anyone got any recommendations for a reliable and fast antivirus package please?

Shucks...
Shucks, PhilMo. I was excited that there were two replies to my dilemma with NAV. Good luck. I googled a search for anti virus products for 2009. Got a great list with grades for about six of them.

Did you come to any conclusion as to which product was the one to go for?

AntiVirus software
PhilMo...I'm going to get The Shield Deluxe 2009. It's the only one with an 'A' rating, and actually got an 'A+'. I looked to see if they were rating the products, but no. It showed Norton in the 'B+' range and McAfee in the 'Cs'.
Now I just need to figure out what's going on with mine and either getting that now (if I can't get help here), or getting it when my Norton subscription expires (that's been extended into end of Dec.).
Post if you learn any other good ones.

Uninstall and use Symantec removal tool.
http://service1.symantec.com/Support...hm&lg=en&ct=us

Then reinstall NAV2009.
NAV2009 has worked well for me. Make sure you do a manual update after install. Maybe do it twice. One should call for a reboot after an update. Version should be 16.1.0.33.
That is the latest version with fixes for previous hiccups.
Very light on resources with new 2009 NAV.

Different ver. of NAV 2009
Thanks Ken,
I looked on my desktop and the version of the NAV 2009 they installed during Live Chat was 16.0.0.125. Would you still advise that I continue with Norton, or move off to a different product I've seen that gets higher marks? Your opinion?

How do I get that version?
Hi Ken, again,
How do I get that version you reference that eliminates the problems I was having with it?

As you know,NAV update itself almost continually.
However, I would suggest you manually run Live update - that has a link if you open the program.
It should have come automatically - but???
Did you check the version through the program Help and Support - About?
If that still says 16.0.0.125 then I would suggest a reinstall and manual live update x 2.

The version change is done through Live Update.

Version
OH! Maybe I was looking at the wrong place then. I looked at the icon on my desktop. I've run Live Update a lot, but then they pulled it and went back to 2008. OK.
Thank you. I'll try this and see what we see, and then report.
