Exclamation Test to see if you are fully patched
"2% Of Windows PCs Are Patched. The Rest -- YIKES!

Think your PCs are fully patched? Think again. New research from Secunia shows less than 2 percent of the world's PCs are completely patched. And the situation's getting worse...

Where do your PCs stand (or fall) on the patched/non-patched chart? Find out for yourself:

PS1 1.0 is available for free download here."

careful with random downloads...scan them first....it could be a virus/keylogger/adware/spyware or anything else like that.

Avg doesn't detect anything...but no one virus program detects everything

No problem.

Congratulations on the 96%.

Will be hard to beat, according to the article.

I've used both a Release Candidate and the final version but it's no use to me until I can find out how to create an Ignore Rule for a whole hard drive, rather than just a file or folder.

My situation is probably quite unusual because I have an old HDD (from my '98 computer) which is partitioned into two (D and F), and it is stuffed with out of date software which presents no risk to the XP installation (I hope!). I had it installed as a backup when I bought this second hand XP computer and because I hoped to be able to access some of the files. However, PSI automatically scans the old drive and includes it in my results which downgrades me to 74% and presumably, very slightly, affects the overall statistics!

If it's not clear, we're downloading and installing/running Secunia's PS1 program.
http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/

It scans your PC for programs it thinks are questionable and then gives you a list of issues. I had out-of-date versions of Java, winamp, quicktime movie player. Adobe Flash Player, Itunes, and netscape.

The list has hyperlinks that take you to Secunia's website that explains a programs vulnerabilities, and it also has a fix button. The latter automatically downloads a program update if available, which you may not want.

Anyway, I used the convenient fix button to update the Adobe flash player, Java, Winamp, and Quicktime. I chose not to touch Itunes because I want the old version. I removed Netscape. Got my score up to 96%. Then I uninstalled the whole package. It wants to run on your PC and coddle it forever, I guess.

It's a pretty interesting tool though. I imagine it goes nuts if it finds true malware.

I have always used Microsoft's MBSA to check this.

On XP and W2K I also use QfeCheck to check that KB's are installed correctly.

I think I did because you can't see the box which allows you to create Ignore rules if you don't (then again, I could have misunderstood that!).

I won't be using it again until I find out how to get my old HDD ignored, if that's possible. There was a thread at the Secunia Forum started by someone in the same position as me, but the answer he got wasn't any help to me!

I always get a clean bill of health with the Online Inspector, which also checks Flash, Java etc., so I'll settle for that for now.

http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/ is great.

The online scan is faster but not as good and will not find everything.
