Need an Anti-virus Programme
Can anyone recommend a freeware download Anti-virus Programme that..............

Doesn't take about a Year to download

Won't go through a very very convoluted process of installation that floods your Virtual Memory, takes even more Years, and does exactly what Spyware does - connect you to a Website - and even disrupts your Browser Settings.

Won't suddenly tell you that the download is free - but once installed and scanned - the registration is $----------- etc.

That works like the other Programmes used to (I ran Cyrix 300/128 Ram/Win 98se) where you download, install, and it does everything it says it's supposed to. Avast was good for this but even that's not as straight forward as it used to be.

Adaware (Lavasoft) seem to have sucumbed to the convolution Process now too!

Won't do what AVG does - and completely clog up the system before it even installs.

Doesn't involve a squillion Webpages before you even get to that bit that says 'Download'

Doesn't slow your computer to the point where a ZX 64 could give it a run for its money.

I use a Toshiba 1735 (700mhz), 64 RAM/ Windows 2K Sp2 and WiFi Internet Connection.

I'll have to say it again. An antivirus is worth paying for. NOD32 is clean, highly effective, fast and simple.

You don't need a paid AV
the free ones do exactly the same job just with less frills

AVG8 is working like a charm here Lighthouse

I don't usually pay for software I can get for free (legally of course...) but for something as important as an antivirus, I prefer the best.

I am more worried about rootkits and trojans than viruses
I never scan with AVG its there to block them

So i have malwarebytes pro running alongside AVG8
with winpatrol and spywareblaster keeping me safe

I also use SuperAntiSpyware and SpywareBlaster. I perform regular scans with both antivirus and antispyware software.
