are avg and pc spyware doctor fighting each other?
I posted here a while ago about removing onecare from my computer. I removed it successfully and installed AVG 8 (free) and PC Tools Spyware Doctor and now my computer is crawlingly slow(it's normally pretty slow, but this is ridiculous!). I'm wondering if they are working at cross purposes? I have an old Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop w/only 20G HD and 256 RAM, Windows XP SP3, using Firefox w/NoScript, ABP, WOT . I only go online about 3 times a week for a few hours at a time at a friend's house, so need to make the best of it. I've read that AVG is pretty resource heavy so maybe I need to switch to Avast or Avira? Also, Spyware doctor found 11 threats and about 355 infections on my computer, though they all seem to be adware and tracking cookies...ABP blocks all the ads and pop-ups so is this a problem? They slow the computer down, right? I have read posts till my eyes bleed but just get confused so any help or advice will be much appreciated. (Advice geared toward my personal "old slow computer and minimal Internet use" situation.) Thanks!

AVG 8 has a spyware scanner,so you probably don't need 2.
You might consider adding more memory to that laptop.
It would help alot with XP.

You can try disabling AVG and see if there is slowdown, then enable AVG and disable Spyware doctor and check. Last option is to disable both programs and check. You might try instead of disabling to try with removal.

thanks for the advice
Thanks to all 3 of you - I removed spyware doc and all seems well now. I think both were scanning at the same time, BTW, from what I've read (and heard Leo say on the show this wknd) tracking cookies aren't a huge deal, do you agree? I really appreciate the help. Malta
