Possibly Trojan?
Hey guys I'm not sure if this is the correct section but, I just have a concern here. A friend of mine said that he's computer detected a trojan (at home) after he plugged it into my computer. Well, right now I'm running a AVG scan, and well, there are only tracking cookies. So, erm how to make sure that a trojan isn't running on my computer? Can a trojan disguise itself such that it becomes undetectable?

Please help thanks.

Can you give more details? Did he do a remote login from his house to your PC at your house? If he can do that, he should have had the skills to remove the trojan , tell you what it was, or at least tell you what he used to make this detection. By the way, if he did use remote access, you want to disable it now that he's done.

If software could catch all trojans, you wouldn't see all these people complaining on this and other forums. Some trojans get in because they are new and anti-virus makers haven't had time to catch up. Others get in because the user was tricked into installing them, bypassing the anti-virus software. And others get in because of bugs in programs like Internet Explorer 7, which just had an emergency update from Microsoft because thousands of Chinese websites figured out how to use it to steal passwords.

The malware forum, sister to this one, is a place where you can post a HijackThis log and wait (maybe a long time - don't know) for assistance in interpreting it. Hijack This is describe over there. It's a program that is effective in finding out what is actually running on your PC.

Or you can run online scans. Try Kaspersky. Use Google.

Ok thanks mrss. I left my com scanning through the night and I found 9trojans inside. Gah, sorry for this thread. I'm currently using AVG now, and just to make sure, once the trojans are inside the vault, and deleted, is it true that I can safely say that my computer is now trojan-free?
