Solved: Is it OK to run 2 anti spyware programs simultaneously?
I just updated SuperAntiSpyware Free Ed. to v 4.23 and it starts running at startup. I cannot stop it from doing that. I have AVG running all the time and it has its own anti spyware feature. I used to run the anti spyware programs manually to hopefully cover all of the 'bases'. Is it OK to have SuperAntiSpyware running along with AVG? If not, how can stop it from starting at startup? The older version of SuperAntiSpyware didn't give me this problem. OS... Win XP Home Ed SP3.
Thanks.

Since AVG already has spyware engine why not remove SuperAntiSpyware from Add/Remove programs?

I just want to have extra protection since not all of the anti spyware programs seem to remove all of the spyware.

'SuperAntiSpyware Free Ed.' is for a manual scan only and dosen't run in the background.
Check.
Start>run>type
msconfig
Click on Startup tab.

Is v.4.23 the paid for version???

And yes. having two Anti-spyware programs running may cause a conflict and leave you less protected not more.

I didn't pay for v 4.23 it's still a free version as far as I know.
I've tried using msconfig and unchecked SuperAnti...etc, but it still comes back at subsequent startups.

That is a foolish idea as Avg is no where near as effective as Superantispyware. There is no reason these two cannot run together by the way I have many clients doing so.

It does run in the background but not for scanning, it's for finding program updates ( not definition updates now).

Yes, with SuperAntiSpyware you can run it with another anti-spyware. I've talked to Nick on this a few years ago...
