problem updating avg 8
I am trying to update our avg antivirus feature. It comes up with invalid update control ctf file. I have tried what other posts have said with no luck. I am not great with computers and need detailed instructions to fix this.

Have you specifically done this:
http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/er...anti-virus-80/

If yes I have to tell you I would walk away from Avg as 8.0 has been nothing but problems. Try Avira instead, it is much more reliable if you cannot afford to buy a good one like say Nod32.

Dear RICH-M SIR,
I,ve got the King on my side!AVG 7.5 was excellent while it lasted(will die on Dec-31st).Look at Comodo Firewall Pro,Avira Anti-Virus(even without pro-active defence),Spywareblaster,Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool(a tad less helpful, but it's there)-trend setters man, trend setters!Ughhh,AVG 8 !Lastly my personal favourites--Auslogics disk defragmenter and Defraggler, may not work miracles, but cuts down the time taken to defrag enormously!I have KIS2009 installed and the firewall, properly configured is a beau!Happy Christmas MR.RICH-M!I value your advises and suggestions with great respect!

Now if we could only get him to add spaces when typing, we'd be all set.

I agree I have the same AVG 7.5 and wish Avg had not taken over Ewido they were good and now AVG 8 has to screw it up and combine anti virus to mess up a fine product
I wonder which anti spywear compares now ?
Have you heard of Spyzooka ? It is paid but only $28 a year and they say they will remove for you any spywear if you cannot .

Don't waste time with that, Superantispyware or Malwarebytes which can be run free with manual scanning or paid and doing it automatically are the best and they are a lifetime buy.

I seem to appear and disappear on this thread!I have both the programs Rich-M mentioned and they are very good, especially the paid versions! Go for them.SPYWARE BLASTER reviews are good and it's supposed to work in a different way,by providing "layered protection"and i've installed it.
