Thumbs down Solved: Problem with McAfee VirusScan
Hello friends, my o/s is XP home SP3, with McAfee VirusScan V4.5.1 sp1 installed.
Often, when my machine comes out of sleep, I find that it has stopped scanning and I get the following error message:-
"NT On-Access Scanner has encountered a problem and needs to be closed. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
Pl. tell me how to rectify this problem, as I find it quite annoying, as well as, it also compromises the security of my machine.
Thanks.

Dear sir,
I personally am not a proponent of allowing the pc to be in sleep mode. Can you kindly clarify what is the status of your scanner ,once you shut down and re-start?Though the downloading of updates is automatic with Mcafee,if the connectivity is slow,i have encountered such problems in the past. Now i have Kaspersky Internet Security Suite2009 and the updates run in the "background".I exactly don't remember the version of Mcafee anti-virus i had,but until the update was over,it was like sitting on tenterhooks.Which firewall have you installed?I hope you don't have any other Anti-malware in your system.

I was personaly using McAfee on my old computer. Damn was it ever so slow! Whenever it was making an update, my computer slowed down. Applications would freeze. McAfee is a big system resource hog.

Now with NOD32, what a difference!

As for your problem, it may be attributed to the sleep mode. While in this mode, the computer is no longer connected to the Internet. So, when coming out of sleep, the delay for the antivirus to connect to the Web to check for updates is a little too long and it creates the error message. I have the same problem with NOD32 sometimes but it's not a serious problem because the updates will come anyway a little later. NOD32 updates many times a day without slowing down the computer. I don't even notice it. It depends how long your computer takes to come out of sleep. The longer it takes, chances are that you'll have an error message.
