Adobe Reader Install stopped by AVG
I recently attempted to download and install Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.
The Download proceeded normally but the Install was stopped with the message"Trojan Horse Generic 12.ACVL detected".
I moved the file to the Virus vault but now wonder what to do next. Is there really a Trojan Horse imbedded in Acrobat Reader (their web site doesn't have any information) or is AVG (Free Version 8.0) seeing things?
Anyone have any clues?
Thanks

I don't know if the virus came from the site from which you downloaded. Was it from Adobe?

If you only need Acrobat Reader for reading PDF files, I would suggest a little free an easy program like Foxit Reader: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php .

Adobe Acrobat Reader is about 100 Mb compared to 20 Mb for Foxit.

Could also be it was marked as that because of the add-on toolbar junk that even the Foxit Reader has now unless you get the Portable version or the (ZIP Package: .zip, 3.12 MB) version.

I just stop using them and changed over to PDF XChange Viewer
They also have a Portable version.

The download was from the official Adobe site.
I don't know if there really was a virus; that was just the eror message I got.
Thanks for the replies

I have downloaded Acrobat Reader 9 from the official site and the only thing MS asked was to allow Activex to run.Have you run a virus scan after AVG's alert? If you haven't noticed any change in the functioning of your PC,then i very much doubt that a virus or a Trojan entered your system.A Trojan by it's very definition ,multiplies and duplicates and will not remain calm!A comodo Firewall Pro(free) would have been of immense help in such situations, because it is your 1st line of defence, and an alert would have definitely come out.

Hi!Dear Karbo, have you seen the beautifully structered ADOBE AIR ( MEDIA PLAYER) and it took my breath away.Worth downloading, i suppose.

I hate Acrobat Reader! Too big and the updates take for ever to download and install!

Merry Christmas!

You've dashed my hopes,Mr.Karbo, i was brought up on these Adobe products and never had the experience of comparing them with similar ones out there! Suppose you were to view Youtube videos (Pour some sugar on me -Def Leppard),which player would you choose?Anyway, don't forget to call me in when there's any occasion in your home for pink champagne to be poured around.I'll do the pouring and you do the sipping!Christmas is tears time for my folks(they hide it well) and not cheers time because iam a juvenile Diabetic and there's no big difference in what is eaten in the Monasteries and my diet! I don't play the blame game and indulgence in self-pity will open Heaven's doors sooner than later! Why do you think i've been on the PC all today chatting away with you friendly folks?I sincerely pray that no teenage guy/girl should be afflicted by this slow poison! Sometimes i feel like Kurt Cobain, finish it all off!Sorry for this drivel, pardon me!

It wasn't my intention Perfume. Sorry for your condition. My mother was a diabetic so I know how you feel. Hang in there, life is worth living, every minute of it.

Happy Holidays and best wishes to you!
