many duplicate files (from virus?)
Happy Holidays! When I save files (such as in Word, Excel, Itunes music, etc.) I save them to their default location. However, the files show up in numerous places, even though I only save them in one location. For example if I save a song in itunes it is saved to:
C:\documents&settings\user\mydocuments\mymusic\itunes\itunesmusic\filename
(which is the default location, and the location to which I want it to be saved)

and also to:
C:\ipodfolder\ipodfolder\ipodfolder\newfolder\ipodfolder\ipodfolder\ipodfol der\
newfolder\documents&settings\user\mydocuments\mymusic

and also to:

C:\ipodfolder\ipodfolder\ipodfolder\newfolder\ipodfolder\ipodfolder\ipodfol der\newfolder\documentsand&settings\user\mydocuments\mymusic\itunes\filenam e

Sometimes it’s also saved under other subfolders of the ipod folder. When I try to delete the file through Windows Explorer or through a duplicate file finder utility I am able to delete one of the files but get the following message when I try to delete any of the other duplicate files:
“Cannot delete file. Cannot read from the source file or disk.”
My hard drive is getting filled up with all these duplicates and I would like to know how to fix it so that I only have one copy of each file, in the location I choose. Thanks for your help. (I'm using WIndows XP.)

It was suggested that I run an anti-virus program so I ran two different ones, both in safe mode and in regular mode. They found a couple viruses (none of which were listed as "emergencies"), which were moved to the virus vault. I also ran a Spyware program. After doing all that, when I save new files they still show up in the duplicate locations listed in my original post. Plus I still have all the old duplicate files in the locations listed above. I appreciate any help you can give me.

Even though i format the drive, the same problem again occurs. Thanks in advance.

Valdgo, you should try some good soft to manage folders and files there. Among free stuff I would recommend you this duplicate file removal programm. Interface is rather comfortable there which is not the last important thing in soft like this...
