harmful material may be on computer
hello,
Cogeco sent me an email saying that i am using a large amount of bandwidth quickly and that I may have a virus on my computer. I didnt really do anything to use up my bandwidth. i hardly downloaded anything and mostly i just watch streaming video. So I wasnt worried. a couple days later cogeco sent me another email saying the same thing. Then I got worried. So i did an online Panda active scan and so far it says that I have over 230 infected files. I am worried about the safety of my computer now. My Nortan 360 cant pick up anything but i have the feeling that my computer is getting a little slow. I would appreciate it if anyone can help me diagnose my computer and clean it up from all the problems. I will try to submit the results of the panda antivirus online scan. Please HELP!

Panda active scan is pretty good. I rely on it for a second opinion and do a monthly scan with it.

Is your machine up to date with Microsoft security patches? It is very important as recently there were many remote code execution bugs found. ( an attacker can remotely run / install anything )

You could also get a second opinion from the Eset Online Scanner, which may be able to remove any malware it finds;http://www.eset.eu/online-scanner Be sure to read the Terms of Use.

And what may I ask is the nature of these infected files? A lot of scanners see tracking cookies as threats... 230 infected files are a lot!

Concerning the bandwidth overload, can you tell me if you're using a wireless connection? If so, sorry to ask, but is it secured?
