Whats Comodo Internet security? | | Administrator with 63,628 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: Quebec, Canada | | I've heard good things about Comodo firewall although I haven't used it myself.
Most of the major firewalls will automatically turn off the Windows firewall upon installation but you should check after installation to be sure as they are not all recognized and it's not good to have two firewalls running.

At the time I researched it,and others were having the same issue.
It's been at least 5 months so I do not remember the Version. | | Distinguished Member with 4,901 posts. | | Join Date: Apr 2002 Location: Birmingham, England | | Comodo Internet Security includes the firewall and Comodo's own antivirus. I have used the firewall for some time now and, the last time I upgraded it, I had to download CIS and then use the option not to install the antivirus (I prefer my current AV, NOD32).
I haven't seen anything about problems with the newer versions and it still gets a good rating at Matousec; http://www.matousec.com/projects/fir...ge/results.php Although I can't now remember where I saw it, (maybe somewhere at Matousec), I understand that the Comodo firewall needs to be on its ' Proactive Security' setting and to have Defense+ enabled to achieve maximum protection, and those are the settings I use.
2.47 is the version for older versions of Windows, the most modern version included with CIS is 3.5.57173.439. There is an older version of the firewall alone (3.0.25.378 dating from June 2008) available here; http://www.filehippo.com/download_comodo/tech/
If you are a 'set it and forget it' type of user you may at first feel overwhelmed by the amount of information generated by the firewall and it is certainly the case that you will need to take time to understand the messages you are seeing. Simply clicking 'OK' for everything isn't necessarily the right thing to do!. However, the Help files are excellent and you can use the default settings for most things unless you enjoy making complicated 'rules'.

It impressed me enough that I bought the paid version for use on my main PC, while keeping the free version on the other. It's a firewall only, so one can pick antivirus, firewall, etc on an ala carte basis, rather than picking a suite..
Firewall testing methodology has changed rapidly. A year ago, Comodo 2.4 was rated the best. Today, with new threats, it's rated well below the leaders (Comodo 3.0 and the current Online Armor among them) for catching the new schemes hackers are creating to get into our accounts.
By the way, PC Magazine likes the standalone Comodo Firewall http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2236657,00.asp
but rates the suite only as fair. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2333811,00.asp | | Member with 54 posts. | | | | COMODO is an amazing program!!!! it provides excellent user controled security, security can be configured by the program, or for the more advanced users, you can control it youself, such as apply custom policies, opening and closing port sets, quarentining and blocking files, and protecting certain aspects o your computer security.
