my McAfee had a problem and it said to reinstall so i uninstalled it but now when i try n install it, it installs half of it and then a message comes up and says ' a error accurred while installing McAfee security centre'

can sum1 help plz?

dont use those paid bloatware crap. they slow down your pc and dont even have good protection. use avast home edition and comodo firewall

You need to cool it with bad mouthing the paid programs. In most cases they are far superior to the free products.

Use that to uninstall McAfee and then try reinstalling.

There may have been a License key needed for McAfee it might be with your paperwork that came with the computer...

If it was pre-installed by the manufacturer, might not need any key though I am not sure....I've seen some that do and the key was in the system paperwork package....

If you are successful reinstalling and it works, get the Updates done as soon as possible there will be a bunch....some updates are for the program, to correct problems...

cookiegal, the reason i say that is because i have mcafee, the newest one which expires next month. i am getting rid of it and using avast and comodo. i have had two big viruses both of which mcafee definitions didnt even detect and avast cleared them right up and so did comodo. i tried avg and avira. avira is ok, avg is bad. also mcafee slows down my pc so much it isnt even funny anymore. also mcafee has too many error problems. five pc's with mcafee have errors all the time. like it asks you to press the fix button to let it fix all the probems and it doesnt even fix them, when you update it doesnt stop, it finishes and restartss.
bottom line is that mcafee WAS good for windows 98. now it is a new age. pc's are advancing and so are viruses. we need new protection from newer apps not old school. another good free one is threat fire. it detects stuff before its known. it has a new technology that monetors behavior rather name.

No one program will catch everything all the time, whether it be free or paid and errors can occur with any program. Sometimes, they are due to incompatibility issues with other programs or system requirement issues. It's fine to relate your personal experience whether it's good or bad but that's no reason to trash every paid program out there and tell people to get rid of the paid programs as the free are better. Some will slow down the system but that's because they are scanning sites you visit to protect you before anything gets downloaded to your machine so it's a trade off of just how much protection you need or want.

McAfee has a free 24 h online support so I suggest you get help on their website. Although I hate McAfee, I must admit their online service helped me when I had McAfee a few years back.

But, to be quite honest, it's the only thing I liked about McAfee. Perhaps, you should look at another product.

This page from the McAfee web site describes how to remove/re-install. It also contains a link to the Mcafee removal tool (mentioned above) which deep cleans your registry and improves the odds for re-installing McAfee or other anti-virus software.

I just used the tool to remove an old McAffee install. Using only the windows removal tool left some residual files that were screwing up the replacement AV. Using the tool made it work.

cookiegal, avast does that too with its 7 online scanners, you can watch it scan them. and also there are no compatibility issues. mcafee has issues on nearly every PC i see with it

I'm not defending McAfee and I'm not saying Avast is bad. All I'm saying is you shouldn't be making global statements like in post no. 2.

alright sorry, i agree it may be a little over the top but im trying to make an imortant statment from my past expreiance. i've helped quite a bit of people bby having them switch from mcaffe and norton and avg etc to avast. many say its better and easier. ill try to pipe down my tone!

Most of us had a bad experience or was unhappy with a security product we used. I'm not going to continuously keep talking about how bad the product is/was. I've and others here as well worked with users that was using AVG, BitDefender, McAfee, Kaspersky, NOD32, Avast!, Trend Micro, Avira, Norton, CA Anti-Virus Panda, F-Secure and None or expired. That all had infections of some sort in the users machine. No one security product is bullet proof. And that will remove every infection out there.(period)
