Hi Anyone..
I need a little help Pse! This is a long story but will keep it short as I can. I am certainly no puter Guru! Have been using AVAST for some time now, and is has seemed to work fine.2 or 3 auto updates a day,and scanning e-mails , etc. My wife and I decided to go Satellite internet the other day and get away from this slow dial up. but we decided to keep the Dial up connection just as a back up server just incase we have problems with the Satellite service. By the way, the Satellite service is WIld Blue and seems to work great. The Satellite installer came and installed the Satellite, and programmed our puters, so we were connected properly between the two different services.
In the meantime I didn't care for Wild Blues e-mail interface,so I registered with Gmail and set up an account, etc. I then decided I didn't like their e-mail interface, and wanted to be able to use my Outlook Express instead since I'm so familiar with it. I didn't know how to set that up, so I called my Army computer tech Son in Hawaii, and had him help me set it up. It took a total of 3 hrs on the phone with Him helping his Dumb ole Dad set up the SMTP, and PoP's until it worked. There is a small glitch with my Dialup server and Wild Blue, but things still seem to work.
So, this morning I noticed that AVAST isn't doing Up dates, and is not scanning my e-mails, and when on the internet. It also sent me a warning that my Up Dates are not current. So , I went pokeing around in AVAST menu's etc, and things seem clear as MUD to me. But it did suggest to go to Start/Progams/AVAST/ and select the wizard to help! Well! Me and wizards get along fine, except, there is no option for the Wizard. But in the help menu it says to go to e-mail accounts and change SMTP settings, etc. Since I don't know what I'm doing, I hate to do that since my Son spent so much time helping me set it all up. I hate to call him again, since he is now on Duty. Can anyone that uses AVAST give me any advice how to access AVAST wizard by any other method, than trying to access it thru Programs where it doesn't appear to be! Frustrating!!!!
I do prefer AVG anitvirus, since I used it for a number of years, but a few months ago it sent me a notice that I needed to un instal it and install the newer version, but after many attempts it wouldn't install. I mean many many attempts, so I decided to go with AVAST which has worked fine up till now! Any advice would be grately appreciated, and if I can't get AVAST working properly, I will just have to be very cautious when browsing the internet,a not open any e-mail with attachments, and keep my fingers crossed I don't pick up any Virus's.:-(
Thanks anyone for any advice..
