Can I have both avg 8.0 and zonealarm security suite on my pc?
I have both avg 7.5 anti-spyware on my pc and zonealarm security suite. To be honest, sometime avg catch spyware that zonealarm didn't (even though I have the zonealarm internet security suit).
But now Avg no longer anti-spyware as a separate software, instead avg 8.0 is going to have both anti-spyware and anti-virus together.
I know that running two anti-virus software at the same time can be troublesome, which is my exact question.
I still would like to have another anti-spyware software on my pc, and avg worked fined (especially being free).
Is there someway that I can have both up to date Avg anti-spyware and zonealarm internet security suit without causing any problem on my pc?
Also, is there anyway to have two anti-virus software on my pc?

I don't think this matter much, but I'm running MS XP service pack 2 with the following:
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.26GHz, 1G RAM.

Thanks.

As you wrote, "I know that running two anti-virus software at the same time can be troublesome", it's not recommended.

Have a complete suite (antivirus + firewall + antispyware) if you want but get yourself an other antispyware program or two like SuperAntiSpyware or Malwarebytes (free), combined with SpywareBlaster (free). No need to have them in real-time if you already have a complete suite. Just scan your system occasionally to be sure your suite didn't miss anything.

Hi skjhlkj,

One way to have both is you can boot up in Safe Mode, and run one AV on all disks, then boot up normally after it is completed to run the other as your normal AV/AS.

So, in normal operation - don't boot up both!

I followed this scheme with WinXP Pro SP2, and ran PC-cillen on normal boot up, but on Saturday mornings, I would boot up into Safe Mode and run standalone AVG.

Hello Karbo,
We meet again.I hope you are fine!Real-time protection is considered better if you are not sure which sites are safe or not and which softwares are safe to download.Sadly,my favourite KIS2009 disk is not being recognized by the cd/dvd drive (got some really good advise on that from Mr.Elvandil) and i too am dependent on AVG 8 anti-virus for the time being. Like you mentioned, i have SAS Pro and MBAM in place.TWO ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAMS RUNNING IN TANDEM IS DISASTER WAITING TO HAMMER YOU! What iam really interested in is, can a malware detection program in real-time mode and an Anti-virus again in real-time mode run in tandem?

Hi Perfume,

I know real-time is better but the question is how much will all those real-time scanners running in the background slow down your computer... And of course, there are always possible conflicts between scanners.
