UPnP questions
Hello TSG

I have been searched with many different querys attempting to understand certain intricasies of UPnP but there are still a few things that I can not find an answer to. There is a particular program which I am trying to figure out in particular, Trillian pro, but don't forward me to the trillian forums, they didn't have the answer to what I was looking for, and my question still deals with UPnP in general and not just support for Trillian.

First off, Trillian claims to support UPnP ( trillian.cc/learn/ ). I have tried to connect to an audio session, without any port forwarding and UPnP enabled only on the router (not Windows XP implementation in services.msc), to another computer running Trillian that is not behind a router and is solely protected by Windows Firewall. "An error occurred while attempting to establish the conference."

After much trial and error, and using COMODO Firewall's connection checking to see which programs are using which ports, I've found that I have to forward port 5678, and trigger 5060 to open 16384 to 16403 TCP/UDP for Trillian AIM audio chat seems to work consistently, but this still only works with UPnP enabled on the firewall.

According to Jomvikings second post in this topic ( http://www.dslreports.com/forum/rema...84?hilite=upnp ) UPnP does not have to be enabled in Windows XP, just the firewall, in order for programs with their own UPnP implementation to work. According to this link ( http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/forum...threadid=70477), am I right to assume that this means that Trillian is using Windows XP's implementation of UPnP and it has to be enabled in Services.msc? Assuming that I keep my system free of malware (which I have been very good at doing so far), is there any other risk of having Windows XP UPnP turned on?

My main question is, however, if it is possible for me to see which ports are being utilized by UPnP in the router itself, instead of using a third party software like COMODO. I think something tricky must be going on if I have to enable UPnP in the router while forwarding all the ports that COMODO shows are actively being used by the Trillian application.

Thank you very much

-Leo
